1. Gazal is collection of Sher
2. Both the lines of Sher must be of same Beher (length of Sher)
3. Radif - Second line of all the Sher's must end with same word(s)
4. All Sher should have same Kaafiyaa - rhyming pattern
5. First Sher must have Radif in its both lines.
6. Maqta - Shayar talking to himself

दिल के अरमान आंसूओमे बह गये
हम वफ़ा कर के भी तनहा रह गये
जिंदगी एक प्यास बन कर रह गयी
प्यार के किस्से अधुरे रह गये
शायद उनका आखरी हो ये सितम
हर सितम ये सोच कर हम सह गये
खुद को भी हम ने मिटा डाला मगर
फ़ासले जो दरमियान थे रह गये
